Why we oppose this direction

Your time. Your money. Your workplace.

We oppose using CAPE’s limited time, money and energy for non-workplace political campaigns. Bargaining, job security, working conditions and representation must come first. Members United promises continuity with M4C. We want a different direction.

3,783 members voted for a workplace-focused mandate. The NEC recommended voting against it. Members chose the opposite direction by more than five votes to one.

Workplace priorities first

The NEC opposed limiting CAPE’s concerns to employment and the employer relationship. Our position: union time and energy belong on the issues members face at work.

Dues are not a blank cheque

The NEC backed a pension-divestment campaign estimated at $250,000, alongside foreign-policy advocacy. We oppose that use of union resources.

The NEC opposed stronger disclosure for resolutions costing $500 or more or likely to increase dues. Members deserve the price tag before they vote.

Nathan Prier: his words, his account

Nathan Prier confirmed to the National Post that the anonymous Reddit account was his. The paper quotes him telling another user: “Oh and people don’t find your racial supremacy cute or inspiring, you Jim Crow hacks.” It also reports a complaint alleging harassment of Jewish CAPE members.

Masha Davidovic: her public advocacy

The Ottawa Citizen’s August 2025 report identifies Masha Davidovic as a member of Queers for Palestine-Ottawa. She defends Capital Pride’s Palestine solidarity statement and criticizes its removal from the website. The report describes a campaign to restore it and adopt a boycott policy covering Israeli academic and cultural institutions.

This public advocacy gives members context when considering a vice-presidential candidate’s priorities. We want leadership that concentrates CAPE’s resources on workplace issues. The article does not establish that Davidovic used CAPE funds or time for this campaign.
